Delta's new contractors saw series (36-5000) would making one much more difficult than cutting out a blank insert out of wood and raising the running saw blade up through insert.
Delta's 36-501 zero clearance insert (sells at MikesTools.com for $55.60) it is an adjustable insert. Which means you can adjust the clearance for different saw kerf sizes (1/8 standard kerf, 3/32"thin kerf, or 080"ultra thin kerf). By moving the adjustable brackets underneath the main body of the insert the width can be changed. There are adjustment screws for in, out, and parallel alignment. One word of caution, make sure you follow the instructions, if your blade has alternate top bevel teeth (ATB), take that into consideration when determining the clearance.
CA Prop 65 WARNING: Drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products can expose you to wood dust, a substance know to the State of California to cause cancer. Avoid inhaling wood dust or use dust mask or other safeguards for personal protection.
