Sherline stepper motors have shafts at both ends so that a handwheel can be used for manual control if desired. If a stepper motor is to be used with a Sherline motor mount, the shaft going into the coupling should have a flat machined or ground on it where the set screw bites into it. If this is not done, the point of the set screw can upset the shaft sufficiently to make it impossible to remove it from the coupling.
For non-Sherline applications, the flat may not be necessary. Therefore, Sherline offers a choice of motors with or without flats on the output shaft. There is a $6.00 difference in price. If you prefer, you can save the $6.00 and grind your own flats when using them with Sherline couplings Stepper motors are available with six wire leads with raw ends or pre-wired with a connector that plugs directly into the Sherline linear or rotary controller.
For general use, purchase either the P/N 67129 or P/N 67130 stepper motor with raw leads. For use with Sherline controllers, purchase P/N 67127 with the Sherline plug installed..
